• Apply for admission
  
  • Submit official high school transcript or GED.
  • Take placement test – Placement test may be waived, please contact the Advising Center for more information.
  • Contact ACM  Financial Aid Office for assistance with your financial aid.

Step 2:

• Contact the Advising Center
  
  • Meet with an academic advisor to review your academic plan.
  • Declare your program of study or change your program of study.
  • Understand the requirements of a program of study.
  • Continue degree and career planning with your program advisor.
  • Learn to effectively navigate your student email, Self-Service, and other ACM student support services.

Step 3:

• Get ready for classes
  
  • Attend a new student orientation session and get your student ID
  • Purchase your
  • Pay your tuition, finalize your financial aid

Step 4:

• Stay engaged
  
  • Check in with your academic advisor or visit the Advising Center during non-rush registration times, like mid-semester after mid-terms. 
  • Be an active, informed participant in the advising process by planning ahead and setting your path to graduation.
  • Make and be responsible for your decisions as a college student.
  • Stay connected by reading your emails daily. 

• Help you understand the enrollment process
  
  • Inform you of institutional policies and procedures
• Teach you how to select courses and develop a class schedule
• Assist you with selecting or changing your program of study
• Help guide you to complete your program requirements
• Guide you through the process of transferring to a four-year institution
• Review your academic progress with you in Self-Service
  
  • Provide you with a program evaluation

• Understand the difference between AA, AS, AAS, Certifications, and LOR’s.
• Review Math and English sequence as required for your major, using the placement scores chart.
• Explain accurately the purpose of General Education and major course requirements.
• Define your enrollment status (part-time/full-time) and how your status affects your length of enrollment toward degree completion
• Review time management skills to create a realistic and balanced schedule, include time for studying, work, family, and leisure activities.
• List correctly the pre-requisite courses required for your program of study as they appear in the college catalog.

• Demonstrate mapping out a two semester plan of classes in Self-Service.
• Identify resources available for undecided students or those exploring an area of study using Career Coach.
• The differences between a professional academic advisor and a faculty advisor are;
  
  • Professional academic advisors are not assigned to specific students. They are available to meet with you (regardless of your major) when you are ready to begin your educational journey at ACM.  They provide additional assistance in reviewing degree requirements and assisting students with academic planning. Academic advisors do not replace your faculty advisor; they work closely with faculty to enhance the advising process.
  • Faculty advisors are experts in their academic discipline, having taught and conducted research in their field of study. Faculty advisors are knowledgeable about specific courses in their divisions, and in the educational and career opportunities in their area of concentration.
